Suncook River Campground is a family-friendly campground less than 10 miles outside of Concord and about an hour north of Boston. The 22-acre campsite is nestled along the beautiful Suncook River, where you can swim, float, fish, or paddle the day away. Your mornings can be spent with a leisurely hike near the river, then an afternoon dip in the pool. Perhaps you'll sit on the banks of the river and catch largemouth bass or trout for dinner, and then end the evening cozying up next to a fire pit.

My favorite part about this rustic campground in New Hampshire is that it is close to major cities, yet it feels like you're tucked into the woods, far away from everything. Plus, I like that Suncook has options for visitors who don't have RVs or camp equipment. So, no matter if you're a regular camper or you're new to spending time outdoors, the campground has something to suit your needs. It’s the perfect home base for exploring New Hampshire’s great outdoors. It's also pet-friendly, so bring the whole squad!

What to Expect at This Riverside Campground

There are plenty of ways to stay at the campground, including primitive tent sites where you can pitch your tent in a private, wooded area with bathroom and shower access. If you don’t have your own camping gear, Suncook River Campground offers camper rentals. Guests can rent a vintage camper or a modern RV, or you can ask about their glamping setups, where the dome-style tent and cots are ready before you arrive.  

Visitors are also welcome to bring their own RV, which is easy to plug and play. The campground offers 30 and 50-amp electric hookups and access to its dump station. No matter how you choose to camp at Suncook River Campground, you're sure to have a wonderful experience. Things to Do Near Suncook River Campground

While the campground has its own hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and aquatic adventures, there are four state parks within 15 miles of the campground! Bear Brook State Park, Clough State Park, Northwood Meadows State Park, and Pawtuckaway State Park are all just a short drive away. Bear Brook is the largest state park in New Hampshire, so give yourself ample time to check it out. Each one of these parks offers endless hiking trails and beautiful views to enjoy.

After a long day of exploring the nearby state parks, head back to the campground and make a splash! Bring a raft and float in the river, or cannonball into the campground’s pool. You can also rent a boat or watercraft from the campground if you don't have your own. The river levels vary, but there are shallow spots that are perfect for the kids. Obviously, the only way to end a night in a campground is by the fire, so be sure to grab a bundle of firewood from the office and get a fire going. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Know Before You Go

You can camp all year at Suncook River Campground, but come during peak season (June to August) for extra amenities, including arts and crafts for kids, family movie nights, and food trucks. Booking during early fall isn't a bad idea. There will be fewer people at the campground, the weather is still nice enough to access the river, and you'll get to see the foliage around the river and at the nearby state parks. Bring your water shoes with you, and don't forget your bug spray, especially during the warmer months.
