Tucked away in northeastern Nevada, Elko is a real Western town where outdoor adventure, culture, and iconic restaurants combine. Although many see Elko as a jumping-off point to Nevada's untamed wilderness areas, visitors are often surprised by how much the city itself has to offer. One of Elko's greatest treasures is the historic Star Hotel. Opened over a century ago, this bar and restaurant serve up authentic Basque cuisine in a cozy, family-style setting. If you have yet to experience real Basque dining, consider it a must-visit!
Opened in 1910, The Star Hotel is a landmark bar and restaurant in the heart of Elko, Nevada. Originally intended as a cozy place for Basque sheepherders to stay until spring, the historic business is today one of the state's most beloved Basque restaurants!
It's all about tradition at this old-fashioned restaurant that still practices old customs like family-style service and the calling dinner bell. And although several families have taken the reins of the Star Hotel over the past century, it's always remained a Basque-owned business.
Both inside and out, this place looks like it hasn't changed a bit over the past 110 years. From the old-fashioned bar top to the cozy, family-friendly dining room, the Star provides a glimpse bask to a simpler time.
The Star serves up traditional Basque cuisine for both lunch and dinner. The Basque Style Lunch includes your choice of entree - top sirloin steak, lamb chops, pork loin, grilled salmon, etc. - with freshly-baked bread, soup, tossed salad, and French fries.
Basque Style Dinner is served in a family setting with soup, salad, French bread, Basque beans, pasta, a vegetable dish, French fried potatoes, and coffee or tea. They have a large list of entree items to choose from, but nothing beats the Star's famous steaks all covered in garlic.
Whatever you do, don't forget to order yourself a Picon Punch to wash it all down. This quintessentially Western cocktail is usually a combination of grenadine, orange liqueur, club soda, and brandy. And nobody makes a Picon Punch like The Star!
