A Night Under the Stars Awaits at This Nevada Tiny Home
A dark sky getaway that's perfect for anytime of year, but especially during Global Astronomy Month every April!
With all the glitz and glamour and bright lights that Las Vegas is known for, you might be surprised that there are incredibly dark skies an hour or so outside the city limits. For star-gazing enthusiasts like myself, seeking out the darkest skies is a must to enjoy the magnificence of the Milky Way above us.
Suppose you're keen on celebrating International Dark Sky Week (which is happening this year from April 13 to April 20, 2026), you may want to head to a location with as little light pollution as possible. Sandy Valley is one such place. Take a getaway and sleep under the stars at an exceptional tiny home in Sandy Valley, Nevada, with minimal light pollution, setting you up for your next stargazing adventure.
Only an hour southwest of Las Vegas sits a town on the Nevada-California border. Far enough away from the flashing lights along the Vegas Strip, Sandy Valley sits under some incredibly dark night skies. Situated in the Mojave Desert in Mesquite Valley, this small town is close to Death Valley National Park, an International Dark Sky Park offering a selection of nighttime, ranger-led programs. Also, Mojave National Preserve, which has incredibly dark skies, is quite close.
The nearest entrance to Death Valley is about 2.5 hours away, while the closest entrance to Mojave National Preserve is about an hour away from Sandy Valley. There's no fee to the preserve, but there is a fee to enter Death Valley.
There are also opportunities for a stargazing getaway right here in Sandy Valley. One such place for a getaway is the Peacock Tiny House. Located on a dude ranch called Sandy Valley Ranch, this is one of two vacation rentals on the property. By day, you can go hiking or horseback riding and, at night, sit out on the porch or climb up to the tiny home's rooftop deck and gaze up at the sky to watch the twinkling stars above. There's nothing better!
The home's interior is cozy, with wood furniture and accents throughout the space. There's one bedroom with two beds and one bathroom. Up to three people can comfortably sleep here. Pets are allowed, but you must pay a $10 fee for each night of your stay. A portion of the pet fee is given to the SPCA.
While there is a kitchen area with a stove and a fridge in this tiny house, you can dine in the ranch house next door. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served there, so let the ranch host know if you're interested in a prepared meal instead of cooking your own.
And when the night falls, you'll want to stay up for a bit and spend some time staring at the stars. It's a sight you won't want to miss! So what are you waiting for? Book a few nights at the Peacock Tiny House, a tiny home in Nevada, where you can stargaze from the property and its rooftop deck. And if you're looking for more stargazing opportunities or other cool things to do or see in the area, our itinerary planner has tons of local recommendations!
