Enjoy Snowy Days and Starry Nights At This Winter Cabin Airbnb in Nebraska
Snuggle up and stay warm at this gorgeous, rustic cabin stay located out in the countryside of Nebraska.
Maxwell, Nebraska, is a small village in Lincoln County with just over 300 people who call it home. It's one of those little places that often gets overlooked by those who don't understand just how beautiful this state and its countryside can be, and as luck would have it, I've happened to find a brand-new Airbnb in Nebraska where you can lounge warm and cozy beneath a blanket of ten million stars.
Winter in Nebraska can be a bit... well, frigid, if I'm being honest. Despite the cold, you can fall in love with this time of year from the awesome backyard of this gorgeous property. The days will be snowy (or perhaps simply chilly; it depends on Mama Nature, of course), and the nights will be dark, but don't worry - you'll stay warm by the fire pit in the courtyard and home-cooked meals from the kitchen, which comes with everything you'll need to prepare the perfect dinner. Just add your favorite foods!
This rustic little slice of history was built before 1860, making it more than 160 years old. It once served as a telegraph station, which later became a stop along the famed Pony Express. Though small, the place can sleep up to eight guests in six beds. I strongly recommend this one for solo travelers and/or couples instead of families—there's just enough room to make it cozy for two.
And speaking of "cozy for two," just wait until you go outside in the dead of night and look up - there are so many stars overhead that the sky appears to be four-dimensional. It's easy to get lost in the stars, wondering how many millions of years ago the light we're seeing now left those bodies. The night sky has long been a source of intrigue and wonder for humans, and there are few better ways to enjoy it than by spending a few nights way out in the country, where the sky overhead comes alive every night with thousands of twinkling wonders.
Of course, once it gets too cold, you can retreat to the warm, safe safety of the cabin, which is decorated with rustic charm. The floors and much of the cabin's interior are made of wood, offering an old-timey but somehow modern feel that's sure to lull each guest into a sense of overall well-being and comfort.
While you're in Maxwell, be sure to check out the iconic Fort McPherson National Cemetery. I am fascinated with cemeteries and reading headstones, and the ones you'll find here are plenty interesting to peruse. It's one of the closest things to time travel we can do these days; every headstone tells a story, and with places that have histories as long and intriguing as Nebraska's, it's bound to make for an interesting adventure. There's a little bit of just about everything here in the Cornhusker State; you'll find an assortment of natural wonders, historical sites, glimpses into the past, and so much more.
Do yourself a favor and never, ever let you tell yourself that Nebraska won't be fun to visit. There are about a million wonderful things about every state in this amazing nation, including the Midwestern ones that are often written off as "boring." In fact, one could argue that those states are the most mind-blowing of all thanks to the lower expectations and much, much higher rate of delivery.
In and around the little town of Maxwell, you'll find an assortment of delightful hiking trails to amuse yourself with. There are six trails, which add up to more than 20 miles of hiking, walking, and biking trails - don't let the town's tiny size lull you into a false sense of boredom or monotony. Nebraska is an amazing place, and all too many folks simply don't seem to appreciate it. I recommend the North Platte Centennial Park Trail.
