Visit Apgar Campground, The Massive Family Campground In Montana That’s The Size Of A Small Town
Apgar Campground in Glacier National Park offers a serene and private camping experience with numerous amenities and proximity to Lake McDonald.
We always hate to see camping season come to an end, but if you're a true Montanan, you're already dreaming of the next one. The Treasure State is full of well-known campgrounds as well as off-the-beaten-path spots to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars. Although it's massive in size, Glacier National Park's Apgar Campground is surprisingly serene and private. In fact, if you didn't know any better, you'd think you were camping in a private village.
The Apgar Campground is located on the west side of Glacier National Park, about one mile in from the West Entrance.
Apgar is the largest campground in the park and one of the largest in the state.
With a whopping 194 campsites to choose from, it's safe to say there's something for everyone here.
25 sites can even accommodate up to 40-foot RV or truck and trailer combinations. You can even reserve one of the five group sites if you're camping with a group.
The campground sits near the southern shores of Lake McDonald, where you can kayak at sunrise and watch breathtaking sunsets.
You'll love being so close to one of the park's most famous lakes. There are also plenty of hiking trails nearby.
The campground itself is surrounded by trees, providing campers with both shade and privacy.
Amenities at Apgar are limited, but it does have restrooms with sinks and flush toilets as well as showers.
The campground is close to Apgar Village, where you'll find gift shops, a camp store, a visitor center, and a casual restaurant.
That's why camping here almost feels like you're staying in a small town.
Check out Apgar Campground on your next trip to Glacier.
During the summer, you won't want to miss evening programs at the Apgar Amphitheater with a ranger.
Apgar Campground is largely first-come, first-served, although you can reserve the five group sites in advance. Get there early in the day to stake out your ideal spot!
