The Sanders has a long and interesting history that’s entwined with the state's history.

It was built back in 1875 by Wilbur and Harriet Sanders, a couple who traveled to Montana with Wilbur’s uncle, Sidney Edgerton, who would become the first territorial governor of Montana.

Wilbur Sanders became a prominent attorney and after Montana became a state in 1889, he became one of the state’s first senators. Harriet was a talented mother, artist, and community leader.

Harriet passed away in 1904 and Wilber died in 1905.

The home is just as grand as it was in the 1800s, with seven rooms that are well-appointed with tasteful antiques.

While the home has some interesting artifacts, including the Sanders' rock and mineral collection, this is no museum. It has the latest lodging amenities, including business-class internet, luxurious beds, and private bathrooms for every room.

The breakfast served by the inn is wonderful – the selections include orange soufflé, gingerbread waffles, and Grand Marnier french toast.

In the afternoon, homemade cookies and treats are available, along with sherry, tea, or lemonade.
