The Historic Hotel In Missouri That Will Transport You Back In Time

Last week, we traveled to Hannibal to spend the night in a truly historic mansion. Today, let's head to Boonville and explore inside the walls of this historic downtown hotel.

Hotel Frederick was built in 1905 by local miller and banker, Charles A. Sombart.

The hotel cost $40,000 to build and was constructed by W.J. Cochran and Sons Construction Company. Today, it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Following the completion of the Highway 40 Boonville Road Bridge, 36 rooms were added in 1932.

In 1964, the Sombarts sold the hotel and for a while, it was used as a restaurant and Greyhound stop. It later served as the Boonville Retirement Center until it closed down in 1994.

In 2004, the dormant building was purchased by the Haw family and underwent a $4 million renovation to bring the hotel back to its glory.

The public areas of the hotel are decorated with 19th century antiques.

In addition to the antique furniture, you'll find old maps framed on the walls. These maps date back to the 1890's, showing Missouri's early history. In addition to the maps, photos are displayed that were extracted from the New Deal's Historic American Building Survey, which was led by cultural historian, Charles van Ravenswaay.

There are a variety of rooms that can be checked out at Hotel Frederick.
