One of the oldest homes in Mississippi can be found at the Meador Homestead B&B. Dating back to the 1800s, the historic home is filled with family heirlooms and is as charming as can be. The best part of all is that you can stay in the antiquated abode overnight. Take a look:
Nestled on 3.5 acres in Hattiesburg, the Meador Homestead B&B boasts comfort, charm, and hospitality.
It also boasts Meador Homestead, a historic hand hewn log cabin. Built in 1885, it’s one of the oldest homes in Hattiesburg.
With two rooms, the dog-trot cabin was rather luxurious at the time of its construction. A large pass-through in the center of the cabin allowed for dogs to “trot” in and out – hence the name.
Though more than a century has passed, the cabin has remained virtually unchanged – aside from the addition of electricity, gas, heating, and AC, of course.
Able to accommodate up to four people, the two-room cabin features a bedroom, sitting parlor, and “glorified outhouse” with a huge shower and crystal chandelier.
Only adding to the cabin’s antiquated authenticity is the myriad of heirlooms that fill it. One of the most attention-getting is the rope bed, which pre-dates the cabin by nearly 30 years!
Over the years, the B&B grew to include another cabin, The Family Treehouse. Brimming with rustic charm and unique features, such as a copper bathtub, it’s just as appealing as the Meador Homestead.
In addition to unique accommodations, B&B guests are treated to complete southern breakfasts and guided tours of the property.
The grounds are also home to Simply Teavine, “the #1 tea room in Mississippi.” Stop by for traditional tea service and exceptional views.
Steeped in history and scenic beauty, Meador Homestead B&B offers a stay like no other.
