Built In 1856, The Duff Green Mansion Is A Historic B&B In Mississippi That Was Once A Civil War Hospital

Duff Green Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Vicksburg offers a historic and charming stay with antique decor and a rich history.

When it comes to finding a place to stay in Mississippi, bed & breakfasts often get overlooked for more popular hotels, Airbnb, and Vrbo rentals, but that’s about to change! Bed and Breakfasts are ideal for vacationers looking for a quiet getaway, and this historic bed & breakfast in Mississippi offers peace and quiet all while surrounding you in a historic space overflowing with charm.

The Duff Green Mansion Bed & Breakfast is one of Vicksburg's most historic places to spend the night.

The house was built in 1856 by Duff Green, a local cotton broker, for his wife, Mary. It was built for entertainment, with huge grand ballrooms and ample space for gatherings.

Jefferson Davis even spent many nights dancing the night away here!

The Duffs lived in the house until the Civil War broke out, and Duff made a very important decision: to transform his home into a hospital for both Union and Confederate soldiers.

This move ended up being the saving grace for the house. So many buildings and homes were burned to the ground during the war, and because it transformed into a hospital for both sides, it was spared.

While the house was turned into a hospital, the Duffs moved into a nearby cave (yes, a cave). Mary ended up giving birth in this cave, and during your stay, you can take a tour of the property and check out this cave.

At the turn of the 20th century, it became a boy’s orphanage and then later a retirement home before the Salvation Army purchased it in 1931.

In 1985, the Salvation Army sold it to Mr. & Mrs. Harry Carter Sharp, who then went through the lengthy process of restoring the mansion to its original glory.

Today, it's a charming bed & breakfast that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are several, lovely rooms to choose from, each one decorated with antique furniture.

Each room has its own theme and private bathroom.

Your stay includes a three-course breakfast prepared by talented chefs.

There's nothing like starting your day with a homemade southern breakfast. You're in for a treat!

Once you've checked out the inside of the house, spend some time strolling the grounds.

Enjoy a quiet moment poolside with your favorite beverage or fully embrace the southern lifestyle and head to the porch with a good book and a comfy rocking chair!
