Book This Dreamy Campsite Along Mississippi’s Topisaw Creek and You Won’t Be Disappointed

Bring the whole family (including the dog!) to this waterfront campsite in Mississippi.

Calling all campers! I’ve found a dreamy campsite in Mississippi that’s the perfect spot to pitch a tent and spend a weekend enjoying a more rustic lifestyle. We all feel those temperatures rising, and what better way to beat the heat than with a waterfront campsite where you can cool off in the refreshing spring-fed waters of the Topisaw Creek? Let’s take a closer look:

Welcome to Camp Topisaw, a local campground in Summit, Mississippi, near McComb. Owners David and Edie have been hosting campers on their 95 acres for over five years now, and they have quickly become one of the best Hipcamps in Mississippi. They were voted #2 in 2024!

There are several tent campsites and three RV campsites for campers to choose from. Reviews for Topisaw Creek all agree that the campsites felt private and secluded, which is key when picking out a campsite. If I’m going to immerse myself in a natural setting for a few days, the last thing I want is to feel crowded.

The Mississippi Hipcamp offers both waterfront campsites and campsites that are closer to the woods. Topisaw Creek is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring your pet along for the adventure! If your dog likes to swim, they will love the creek.

Speaking of animals, there are plenty of critters on the property! The owners have several chickens, cows, dogs, and cats that will welcome you when you arrive. Keep an eye out for Luna, the property manager (the friendliest dog), who will make routine visits to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. She accepts verbal confirmation that she is, in fact, a good girl, plus plenty of pets as tips.

Topisaw Creek is a tributary of the Bogue Chitto. The sand banks are the perfect spot to pull up some beach chairs and splash the day away. Bring some inflatables and tether them for a relaxing float, or plop your beach chair in a shallow area (my favorite) and enjoy the sounds of the water rushing past.

The creek is generally pretty shallow and has a slowish current, which is perfect for kids and pets.

As the sun begins to fade, get a fire going (all campsites have fire pits) and cook up some dinner over the fire! Then, turn your gaze to the sky and enjoy an evening of stargazing. You’d be surprised how many stars you can see when you get away from those pesky city lights! If campfire cooking isn’t in the cards, pay a visit to The Dinner Bell, a restaurant in McComb serving up some of the best Southern cooking around. It’s about 10-15 minutes away from the campsite.
