The One Mississippi Airbnb You Need to Book for Unforgettable Dark Sky Views

While most people prefer the long days of summer and spending their time relaxing on the beach, I can’t wait for winter. I thoroughly welcome the shorter days and cooler temperatures. One of my favorite things to do in the winter is to go stargazing. Truth be told, I don’t do well with bugs, and I’m much less stressed when I’m stargazing in the winter and not having to worry about roaches, spiders, and skeeters. If you want to spend a few nights gazing up at the heavens, this Airbnb in Mississippi is perfect for stargazing. 

Even though we can’t control the clouds, one thing we can control is our view. You need a wide open space to get an unobstructed view of the sky. That’s where Whispering Winds comes in. 

Overlooking thousands of acres of farmland, this secluded Airbnb in DeSoto County is built on the Mississippi Delta Bluff and offers an idyllic spot to do a little stargazing. As someone who spends their winters in the Arctic chasing the Northern Lights, I can offer you some advice for getting the best out of your Mississippi stargazing Airbnb: stay at least three nights. Cloud cover is inevitable and can really put a damper on those starry skies. If you can time your visit around the New Moon, even better! I love the quiet illumination a full moon brings, but it sure does wash out some stars. 

Airbnb features two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, accommodating up to six guests. The house has an open concept, with one bedroom upstairs in a loft-style and another downstairs. The house is disability accessible, and even includes safety railings in one of the bathrooms. Wispering Winds is only 30 minutes from downtown Memphis, so you can spend your days exploring Memphis and your evenings counting the stars. 

The 26-foot vaulted ceilings make this space feel enormous, and the skylights let in plenty of light. Those skylights are idyllic in the evenings when you can do a little indoor stargazing, too!

The Airbnb boasts both a hot tub and a pool, so you can kick back and relax in whatever weather Mississippi throws at you. Grab your favorite beverage and enjoy a magical sunset from the hot tub! There’s also a fire pit with chairs to gather near and indulge in some roasted marshmallows and good conversations over the sounds of a crackling fire. 

Once the sun goes down and the stars come out to play, I recommend turning off all of the surrounding lights, lying back in one of the lounge chairs, and giving yourself about 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust. No scrolling on your phone! Those bright screens will ruin your night vision.
