Experience Fall Magic on a Private Island Getaway in Minnesota
Celebrate the transition from summer to fall on a private island in Minnesota. This comfortable Airbnb tiny home is surrounded by woods and the perfect place to wring out what's left of warm weather this year.
As long August days dissolve into cool September evenings, and the autumnal equinox swirls into view on the calendar, I often feel an urge to acknowledge the transition. In Minnesota, I can't think of a better way to do so than heading Up North at a time when I can still wear shorts and not be too cold, when the mosquitoes are fewer in number and more passive in demeanor, and when a fleece and a fire are all I need to stay warm on clear, starry nights. If I also happen to find myself on my own private island, I would not be disappointed.
You won't be disappointed, either, by this well-appointed tiny home Airbnb, which is situated on similarly tiny—but picturesque—Birch Island, surrounded by three wooded acres, and encircled by the pristine waters of Deer Lake. The lake is renowned for its exceptional water clarity and is widely considered one of the clearest in the Bold North, making this Airbnb's setting even more sublime.
This modern, two-story cottage packs a lot into its petite structure. Outside, you'll find a fire pit, a grill, and plenty of seating. The opening above the home is perfect for stargazing with a beverage in hand and a crackling blaze at your feet. Inside, you'll find sleek, contemporary styling with a Scandinavian sensibility: Think light wood, clean lines, and an abundance of natural light.
The kitchen is packed with all you need to prepare your indoor meals—when grilling is off the table, so to speak—including modern appliances with full-sized functionality. (And yes, the property is equipped with running water and an indoor bathroom.) On those evenings when you don't feel like cooking at all and don't mind a 20-minute (or so) drive, head over toward Bena on U.S. Route 2 and the Big Fish Supper Club—an old school road house attached to a massive fiberglass muskie statue. The food is classic and hearty; you'll return to your rental satisfied and ready to enjoy a comfortable night under the stars.
Don't sleep on this tiny home's outdoor amenities, though. While the weather is still warm, guests can enjoy the island's tiny beach. A pair of paddleboards and a tandem kayak are available and perfect for exploring Deer Lake's rugged and often wild shoreline. Bring your rod and tackle to enjoy fishing right from the dock—or simply kick back in a chair at the lakeside, enjoy the sound of water lapping at the island's edge, and let the sun warm your face as it slides down toward the western horizon.
Are you ready to bid farewell to summer and welcome autumn? If so, your private island on pristine Deer Lake is waiting for you in northern Minnesota. Head on over to the cabin's Airbnb listing for a complete list of amenities, to see more photos, and to book your stay.
