The One Massachusetts Airbnb You Need to Book for Epic Dark Sky Views
Looking to do some stargazing in Massachusetts? Head to Nantucket and discover two local observatories and an incredible Airbnb.
The small Massachusetts island of Nantucket is known for its beautiful beaches, local authors, rich maritime history, and quaint New England coastal charm. But did you know that Nantucket is also a fantastic place to observe the stars? Not only do the skies above the island give way to incredible nighttime water views, but Nantucket is also home to two outstanding observatories.
If you are a lover of astronomy or just enjoy hanging out under the stars, a visit to Nantucket should be on your travel bucket list. And if you are looking for a great place to stay while you are on the island, I have found the perfect Nantucket vacation rental for you. Let me tell you more about a beautiful home named Goose.
This five-star Nantucket Airbnb is such a lovely place to escape. I could spend weeks here at a time. While many local rentals are only available in the summer months, Goose also has availability during the off-season, when it is less busy on the island. This adorable New England shingled home has plenty of space for up to eight guests to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing island stay. Inside, you will find four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. There is also a full upstairs kitchen, a basement kitchenette (complete with a popcorn maker for ultimate movie nights), and several cozy living areas with lots of comfortable seating. The nautical/aircraft theme of the house makes it extra special.
But if you are coming to Nantucket to stargaze, you will probably be most excited by Goose’s outstanding outdoor spaces. The home has a large yard to set up your telescope. And there are also lots of bonus areas where you can spend epic stargazing nights. Dine or relax under the stars on the spacious main deck, or spend a cozy night with friends or family sitting around the rear deck’s propane firepit. But perhaps my favorite spot is the rental’s four-person outdoor hot tub.
Goose is located close to town and several popular Nantucket attractions and beaches. A delicious breakfast at the 45 Surfside restaurant is only a short walk away. And you will definitely want to visit the island’s two observatories. The Maria Mitchell Loines Observatory hosts several “Stargazing Open Nights” where visitors can view the stars and planets through the observatory’s telescopes. You can also tour the newly reopened Maria Mitchell Vestal Street Observatory, which dates back to 1908. If you are wondering about Maria Mitchell, she was our country's first American scientist to discover a comet and the United States' first female astronomer. And yes, she was born and raised on Nantucket!
