Located within Acadia National Park, it's no surprise that Schoodic Woods Campground was recently named one of the most beautiful in America by Travel + Leisure magazine. We couldn't agree more, this place is spectacular.
The views from this part of the state are exactly what so many people imagine.
The rocky coast, blue skies, and green forest all combine to make up the quintessential Maine views. Those of you who have explored Acadia National Park will be real familiar with the sound of crashing waves and the same greenery found within the park. It might not be on Mount Desert Island but this is actually part of the national park as well, and tends to be far less busy than the main attractions found off of the Park Loop Road.
Camping here is an experience that combines the beauty of Maine with close proximity to all the activities that are offered by both Acadia and other nearby natural areas. This is also one of the newer campgrounds in the park, which makes everything feel squeaky clean, especially in such a historic park where everything dates way back to the early 1900s and has been used ever since.
There are a total of 89 sites here. While some are best for tents, 41 of them are RV-only, making this a perfect spot for those looking to find a great set-up. These quiet spots just add to the tranquil beauty found all around you.
The wooded area makes for plenty of tucked-away spots with lots of privacy. All of the RV sites have electricity and some of them have both electricity and water hookups.
And whether you prefer shady hideouts or sunny sprawling areas, you'll find it here. With plenty of trees around the shadows tend to change much like Maine weather, so you should have a good combination of both.
The facilities are also lovely. Visitors report everything being well-maintained and clean. Keep in mind, though, there are no showers in the bathrooms so make sure you plan accordingly.
Throughout the campground, visitors will also have access to hiking trails, walking paths, and educational placards intended to make the area come to life. It is easy right from your campsite to walk off and start exploring this beautiful area of Maine.
It's easy to get lost in the best way possible during your stay. From the rocky coastlines, the mountainous overlooks, quiet forests, and smooth stone beaches, there is so much to see and do. Adventure awaits you in this little slice of Downeast heaven.
The Schoodic Peninsula is one of the most wildly beautiful areas of the state, which makes this one of the best places to reserve an RV spot for a few nights enjoying quintessential Maine!
