One thing we have in abundance in our beautiful state is a vast expanse of natural beauty where we can set up a tent or park an RV and enjoy the lush forests, pristine lakes, and abundant wildlife. It’s even better when you find a lovely remote campground in Maine where you’ll be away from crowds and have all the peace and quiet you like. One splendid option is the Nesowadnehunk Field Campground in Baxter State Park.

Nesowadnehunk Field Campground is the most remote campground in Baxter State Park yet it has several modern amenities so that you don’t have to rough it too much if you don’t want to. There’s even one cabin named Camp Cozy if you truly want to be out of the elements.

There are 11 lean-tos where you can simply place down your sleeping bag or set up a small, two-person tent and still have a bit of shelter from the wind and rain. Plus, you’ll be up off the ground and less likely to have to deal with tiny critters.

If you’re looking to do some good, old-fashioned tent camping, there are nine tent sites available. All of the various campsites have a decent amount of space between them so that you’re not right up against another campsite. You get your own little swath of trees and space.

If you really want to get out into the wilderness, there are several excellent hiking trails in the area, each of which affords stunning views and a sense of serenity where you can listen to the birds and hear the breeze through the tree branches.

You’ll be steps away from the gorgeous Nesowadnehunk Creek. I could sit here and listen to the water for hours. At a place like this, all your worries will flow away and you’ll feel more at peace than you have in a long time.

If you want to get some kayaking or fishing in, Williams Pond is a short hike from the campground and the views alone are worth the walk. Being surrounded by Maine’s natural beauty is an absolute pleasure.
