Poplar Hut Is A Magical Waterfall Camping Experience In Maine

Poplar Stream Falls in Franklin County offers a luxurious camping experience with nearby trails and a beautiful waterfall.

Getting outside in Maine is a great way to appreciate the state just a little bit more. From mountain peaks to the sea level beauty of the coast, there's plenty to take in if you need a little peace and calm. If you're looking to raise your heart rate, there are also lots of trails to explore. There are so many different landscapes here, but one of our favorite features are the waterfalls. This camping experience is a bit more luxury than sleeping on the ground and it's quite close to the lovely Poplar Stream Falls.

Poplar Stream Falls in Franklin County is located on the Penobscot Indian Nation land that the public is permitted to access. Once a bit hard to find, it's now fairly simple with the construction of the Maine Huts and Trails network.

Even more fun is that visitors can stay just a down the trail from the falls by reserving the Poplar Hut.

One of four beautifully built cabins, Poplar Hut can be reserved in advance for those who want to explore the trails nearby. And, of course, the .3-mile hike to the waterfall should be the first order of business.

The route is easily accessed from the cabin with clear signs, all created by Maine Huts and Trails.

Along with the other three, Poplar Hut features a common room, a reading area, and a screened-in porch. Visitors will also find hot showers, toilets, gear drying rooms and comfortable heated rooms.

Incredible meals are even served here to enjoy with others who are staying overnight.

The Poplar Hut can be enjoyed year-round.

And the trails are well-groomed to allow for easy exploration even in the snow.

The falls are great in warmer months. offering a swimming hole for splashing.

And the photo ops are great.
