There are 21 state parks in Louisiana, and each one of them is worthy of a road trip. The park I’m featuring today, however, is not one of them! This hidden park in Louisiana is so remote, most people don’t even know it exists… but for the few that do, they know what a special spot it is. Surrounded by sugar cane fields and water, Burns Point Park in Franklin is worth driving across the state to explore, so pack some road trip snacks, and let’s check out one of the most remote parks in Louisiana.
Welcome to Burns Point Park, arguably one of the best campgrounds in Louisiana.
You’ll find this hidden park in Louisiana at the very end of Highway 317. This is one of those places where you’ll want to make sure you’ve got all the road trip essentials and plenty of snacks before you arrive. It’s pretty remote!
The campground/park overlooks Bayou Sale Bay, which leads straight into the Gulf of Mexico.
If you’ve ever launched your boat from Cypremort Point and headed down from Vermilion Bay, then you’ve probably seen this campground from your boat and never knew.
The park is lovely for a day trip, but most visitors take advantage of the campground side. Just imagine waking up to that view!
RV slots and primitive tent camping are available here, and both have electric hookups. It’s cash only to reserve your spot, and it’s about $15 for an RV and about $10 for a tent site. Unfortunately, there are no cabins at Burns Point. If you're looking for a cabin, I'd suggest you head just a tad north over to Cypremort Point State Park.
The fishing here is unparalleled, so bring your gear.
Be sure your Louisiana Fishing License is up to date.
There is a boat launch for folks who want to explore the bay and the Gulf, but you'll do just fine dropping a line from the shore.
There is a playground for the youngsters, as well as a pier you can fish off of, or just enjoy the view.
And some seating with shade, which is important!
In the evenings, take advantage of the pier's seating to sit back and watch the sunset.
The sunsets over the water are just mesmerizing.
While it may be a bit of a drive, I think it's absolutely worth it when you get to see this view for yourself. And who knows, you might get lucky and catch yourself dinner!
