This 100-Year-Old Louisiana Bed & Breakfast Offers A Cooking Class To Guests
Casa Pelican B&B in Algiers Point offers historic accommodations and renowned cooking classes by Chef Karen Duncan.
Come for the food, stay because you want to learn how to cook! Located in the historic Algiers Point neighborhood across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter, Casa Pelican B&B is as much known for its chef’s pedigree and cooking classes as it is for its accommodations. The place is run by Chef/Sommelier Karen Duncan, who frequently showed up on Food Network and HGTV when she ran a Louisiana import store and restaurant in Toronto, Canada. Today, she’s a retired restauranteur and has been running Casa Pelican since 2009, sharing her love of cooking with both locals and travelers.
The bed and breakfast makes its home in a historic house built in 1880. The surrounding neighborhood of Algiers Point is quiet and safe.
There are two bedrooms to choose from here. The Suite comes with an ensuite bathroom and extra sitting room to accommodate an extra person.
The Balcony Room features French doors to your own private balcony. Both room options come with a TV, WiFi, and an amazing hot breakfast from Chef Karen.
With so much going on here centered around food, you’ll be spending a lot of time in this dining room.
Chef Karen is trained in classic French cuisine, as well as traditional Cajun and Creole cuisine. You won’t go hungry here.
The cooking classes last four hours, during which you’ll try your hand at making an authentic Louisiana dish and sit down to a fine meal.
The cooking class is an extra feature; you don’t have to be a guest to book a spot in one! Themes of the classes include Cajun and Creole basics, seafood, brunch, and more.
Guests rave about Casa Pelican, noting the easy ferry to the French Quarter within walking distance, the beauty of the home, and the delicious food. They also speak highly of Chef Karen herself, saying she is kind, accommodating, and great to sit down with for a conversation.
