When traveling, I'm a firm believer in staying somewhere unique. It's easy to get so caught up in planning the itinerary of a trip that you forget about where you'll be spending the night. Where you rest your head at night can really make or break a trip, because if you're not getting enough sleep, you're certainly not going to have the energy for adventuring and experiencing new things during the day. Luckily, we've got quite a few amazing vacation rentals in Kansas that are perfect for a quiet night of relaxation during your travels. We've picked out a few of the most unusual - check them out:
1. Historic Limestone Cabin: Ellsworth
This historic limestone cabin is tucked away on a family farm just north of Ellsworth. It's incredibly quaint and charming, and feels like a step back in time to simpler days.
The property is completely separate from the main house, so it's got its own kitchenette and bathroom. The small living area has several antiques on display from the owner's Polish family.
The loft has a queen-sized bed that is suitable for one or two guests. This is such an adorable romantic getaway for a couple looking for a relaxing trip to a rural area. For more information, see the property's Airbnb.
2. Santa Fe Boxcar: Hutchinson
Ever dreamed of being a railroad stowaway? The Santa Fe Boxcar is a perfect place to stay! This traincar was originally built in 1941 and was converted to a guesthouse in 2020. Hutchinson is one of our favorite towns, and it's great for an adventure.
The boxcar is so adorably decorated inside! There's a kitchenette that's perfect for cooking simple meals.
The boxcar is surprisingly spacious inside and can sleep up to five guests. Learn more or book a stay at the property's Airbnb listing.
3. Sun & Moon Mongolian Yurt: Lawrence
This off-grid yurt is the perfect middle ground between roughing it in a tent and staying somewhere more luxurious. It's one of our favorite spots for glamping in Lawrence, KS.
The handmade yurt was crafted in Mongolia and has no electricity or running water - it's very similar to camping. The cozy yurt is the perfect romantic getaway for a couple looking to reconnect with nature.
The yurt has a single bed and can sleep one or two guests. Note that it is closed from June to September due to the heat. Find out more or book a stay at Airbnb.
