With a population of over 200,000, Des Moines is Iowa’s largest city. While there are parks, lawns, and trees adding greenery to this metropolis, in a city this size you have to look a bit to find a spot where you feel immersed in nature. But find such spots you can.
This huge glamping tent in between Des Moines and Ankeny, for example, is just that kind of place, a welcome haven for those who crave camping and woodland without sacrificing a comfortable bed or quick access to the metro area.
The tent is perched on a platform in the lush, green forest, lending it a treehouse air.
Parking is near the tent but not directly adjacent. The host also recommends having bug spray on hand.
Now to some, memories of tent camping bring to mind adventures where sleep was stolen by hot and sticky nights or dominated by shivering from a chilly fall morning. That won’t happen here; this tent is actually equipped with heat and air conditioning to provide comfortable sleeping in any season.
However, of all the attractive features of this stay, the best might be the setting. It’s hard to compete with the simple beauty of the hardwood forest in which this tent is tucked away.
This tent has electricity and some appliances such as a refrigerator and coffee maker. On the rustic end of things, though, the shower is outdoors and the site has a composting toilet.
Towels are not provided, but bedding for the king-sized bed is included. There's also a twin pull-out couch.
