When Frank Lloyd Wright was asked to design the Park Inn Hotel, he was an up-and-coming architect that had yet to make an enormous impression within his field. The Hotel was completed in 1910 and quickly became a landmark in Mason City. Now, it's the last remaining hotel designed by one of the world's most famous architects, and Iowans are lucky enough to be able to stay in the last Frank Lloyd Wright hotel still standing.
The Park Inn has had its share of struggles, and its history is one of decay and resilience.
The Park opened in 1910, but a newer hotel was built in the 1920s that created competition. The economic and farm crisis of the next decades took their toll. The hotel was subdivided into apartments, and much of the original artwork and style was lost. In 1972, the Park Hotel was shuttered.
However, the last Frank Lloyd Wright hotel is still standing today - and it's been completely restored back to its former glory!
Thanks to several grants, dedicated volunteers, and local investment, the Historic Park Inn is once again inviting guests to experience old-fashioned grandeur.
When you step inside, you'll immediately be transported back in time! This gorgeous and unique hotel is truly one of a kind.
Guests can truly experience a luxurious stay at the Park Inn, and the rooms feature plenty of light, comfortable beds, and modern amenities.
You can't help but wander through the many rooms - including an elegant law library, an upstairs lounge, and more.
Step into the 1910 lounge for a drink and a great meal and you'll wonder if you've accidentally discovered a time machine.
Whether you stay at the historic Park Inn or you just stop in for a memorable meal, the last Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world is calling you to Mason City, Iowa.
