This Indiana Airbnb Is Like Stepping Onto the Set of a Wes Craven Film
It's Halloween every day at this horror-themed Airbnb in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Who says scary movies are only for October? At this horror-themed Airbnb in Indianapolis, Indiana, Halloween is every day. The eerie decor of the vacation rental is filled with everything from spooky murals of the infamous Scream villain to a hidden Chucky doll from Child’s Play. If you’re a lover of all things unearthly, a stay at the Black House is for you.
Adding to the odd allure, the building was originally the Fountain Square Dental Clinic. The host claims they even found human teeth when he was renovating the clinic into a rental. The space was restructured to house both the short-term rental and a coffee shop in the front of the building.
Opened in January of 2024, the shop is called Black House Café, and guests can earn a free cup of coffee if they find the aforementioned Chucky doll lurking in their Airbnb. The café offers some light bites and vegan options and specializes in bourbon-flavored cold brew. Plus, all Airbnb guests get 10 percent off their orders.
Located in the Fountain Square neighborhood, the Black House Airbnb sleeps up to ten guests across three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. For the bravest souls, the host doesn’t hold back on the details. In addition to the Scream pillows that await guests on their blood-colored beds, images of other frightening characters scatter the home. You'll find the likes of characters from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dracula, Beetlejuice, and more. A coffin-shaped cabinet is another particularly haunting detail.
One of my personal favorite details that the host has curated is the kitchen knife holder that's reminiscent of that scene from The Shining. Not to mention bats strung on top of one of the showers and even on the paper towel holder. In addition to its quirky decor, the 2,400 square-foot home provides guests with a full kitchen, work space, board games, and even a rooftop lounge space. The large flatscreen TV in the Beetlejuice room is perfect for streaming a horror marathon with your travel companions.
While not scary (unless the Indianapolis Colts lose), the Airbnb is located just one and a half miles from Lucas Oil Stadium. It's a great home base to catch a game without having to deal with the headache of commuting. Additionally, the home is only three miles from the University of Indianapolis, making it a convenient option for visiting students, parents, or faculty.
Whether you're a lover of quirky design or just someone in search of a unique and comfortable stay, this horror-themed Airbnb checks all the boxes. The home is particularly popular with groups looking to spice up their getaway. The Airbnb has hosted everything from witchy bachelorettes to emo-themed 30th birthdays.
If you're traveling with your young family for a long weekend or looking to celebrate a big milestone, the Black House delivers. From its spooky decor to its thoughtful amenities, this home guarantees a stay that is anything but ordinary. Do you know of another unorthodox Airbnb in Indiana?
