This Unique Indiana Campground Is Also A Designated Dark Sky Area So You Can Stargaze During Your Stay

Did you know there are a decent handful of dark-sky places in Indiana (and the United States) perfect for a nighttime escape? You can even camp at a Dark Sky Park in Indiana to enjoy magnificent dark sky camping! A beautiful place known as Dunewood Campground is one little slice of paradise perfect for epic stargazing in Indiana. It can be found in Beverly Shores - one of Indiana's first dark sky towns. It's so outrageously beautiful we're stunned it's not more popular than it already is.
Let's be real here: Beverly Shores is worth a visit all the time - day or night.
But there really is something special about it by night, when the sun goes down and the sky is filled with thousands of shimmering stars and indifferent planets above.
There's one campground in Beverly Shores that makes the perfect destination for stargazing in Indiana: Dunewood Campground, which is delightfully close to Lake View Beach.
Since Beverly Shores is a designated dark-sky city, so too is Dunewood Campground, making for the perfect nighttime getaway.
It's astonishingly beautiful by day, with proximity to Lake Michigan and all the paradise it brings.
There are 66 campsites total: 54 are drive-in sites and 12 are walk-in sites; four of those sites are ADA accessible. There are no electric or water hookups, so plan accordingly. Oh, and bring a telescope - it'll be amazing.
Depending on what time of year it is, you'll encounter all sorts of amazing celestial events and bodies to admire time and time again.
From January to June, the Milky Way is typically visible in the very, very early morning, before dawn. From July to October, the Milky Way is typically visible at nighttime overhead. From November to January, though, it is usually not visible at all.
But no worries - lots of other things will be.
Watch some of the amazing annual meteor showers from Dunewood Campground to see them in ways you've never seen before. Next time there's a planetary conjunction, or perhaps a lunar eclipse - consider this dark-sky sanctuary of a campground.
You can't go wrong, no matter what time of year you arrive; the night sky over Indiana is always breathtaking in some way or another, and it's truly a sight to behold.
