If you're anything like I am, you are of the firm belief that it's never a bad time to go on an adventure, no matter the season, weather, climate, or circumstances. Seriously, the whole world could break out into the chaos of a zombie apocalypse, and you'll just find me in the woods. I'll be okay... happy, even. If it's the dead of winter (or the charm of spring... or any ol' time) and you're still feeling that need to get out and explore the world, I feel you - and I've got the perfect spot. If you're looking for the perfect year-round campground in Indiana, I have lots of spots - every one of our state parks has year-round camping available!
For today, though, I'd like to hone in on one state park and its camping in particular: the wondrous Chain O'Lakes State Park, in Albion.
Not to be confused with another state park in Illinois with the exact same name, Chain O'Lakes State Park is easily one of Indiana's most beautiful landscapes, so it's only natural to want to pitch a tent and relax (at least for me).
And pitch a tent you may: with hundreds of different campsites to choose from, the opportunities feel endless.
Take your pick from primitive, electric, non-electric, RV, and more - all depending on your plans and your needs. This park is very RV-friendly, and if sleeping outdoors really isn't your thing, there are also numerous cabins available for reservation.
Winter, when the lakes are frozen over and the leaves are all absent, is easily the quietest time of year.
It's the slow season, but the campground is open; personally, I love winter camping BECAUSE it's so quiet (and it can feel super rugged when it's chilly enough).
In the winter, do keep in mind that the "Modern Comfort Station", which includes a heated shower, is only open through Thanksgiving - so winter really is the best time to "rough it".
Of course, the park is downright magical in spring and REALLY busts out the amazingness in the summer. With full foliage in effect, it's impossible not to feel amazed at just how beautiful Indiana's wilderness is.
Scattered across the entirety of the park are 13 beautiful kettle lakes, formed long ago as glaciers retreated from the region.
Fishing is welcome all year - this park is popular for ice fishing, so no matter what, be sure to bring your gear!
Other popular activities include kayaking, canoeing, and hiking, with 23 amazing miles of gorgeous trails to enjoy.
This is one Indiana state park with which you cannot go wrong.
So, come on out to Chain O'Lakes State Park and experience the great outdoors Indiana-style.
This year-round campground in Indiana is a treat even for those who aren't typically into camping or hiking - come explore and you'll see! To reserve your campsite ahead of time, be sure to visit the official Reserve America listing for it. Planning to drive to the park (and it's a long one)?
