Hidden away in the Hoosier National Forest on Houston between State Route 135 and Buffalo Pike is a cute little pond that all too often gets tragically overlooked. It's easy to miss, being as small as it is, but that just lends itself to something even better - there are seldom, if ever, large groups of people here. This, in turn, makes it one of the best places to go camping in Indiana; it's astonishingly peaceful, and everyone who comes out is going to have a refreshingly lovely time. Maine's Pond

Welcome to the tiny hidden paradise that is Maine's Pond.
It's definitely a small-sized kind of place, but thankfully, it's also not well-known, so there's a more-than-excellent chance you might just get the whole place to yourself.
Located within the gorgeous - if not occasionally a little spooky - Hoosier National Forest, this beautiful pond comes with its very own surprise.
It just so happens to be an excellent place to camp. It's small, quaint, and definitely primitive, as there's no water or electric out here.
Maine's Pond is definitely ideal for those who greatly prefer the old-school style of roughing it.
Few things are more satisfying to our primal souls than a campfire, cooking delicious food, and telling ghost stories around it all. It's an awesome place to camp solo, or with a small group.
Personally, I'm a fan of the solo adventure.
There are no better ways to find oneself than by embarking on an awesome solo outing to the gorgeous outdoors. Indiana is full of awesome things to do, see, and camp out near, and Maine's pond often gets overlooked (which, at least to me, makes it even better).
Wildlife watching is quite the thing to do around here; you'll quickly discover that this little pond is a great place to be if you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the critters who call this little park home.
Commonly spotted birds include sparrows, meadowlarks, bluebirds, quail, and plenty more. Lovers of amphibians will also delight in the assortment of frogs and salamanders present.
In the spring, the wildflowers explode into existence, and in the fall, the colors around here turn ablaze.
There's never a bad time to explore Maine's Pond - and camping here is oh, so wonderful. I wouldn't blame you for never wanting to leave!
