Sleep Among the Treetops at This Unique Illinois Vacation Rental

If you ask me, Lewistown, Illinois, is an interesting place to live or visit. Its history is lengthy and filled with intrigue, and it's easily one of my favorite small towns in Illinois. It's a great place to go when you're seeking peace and quiet. I've found an incredible vacation rental in Illinois that's absolutely perfect for anyone hoping to make a magical escape.

Truly, the views from just about every window are to die for. This stunning treehouse is lofted up into the canopy of the woods, and as a result, it's dreamlike and wonder-filled.

It's not terribly large, at just 285 square feet, but the owners manage to cram all sorts of wonder into this little space. The interior decor is rustic and truly like something out of the pages of a fairy tale, offering a whimsical feel both inside and out. One of my favorite things to do is relax on the wrap-around deck (which is 540 square feet in size!) among the treetops, enjoying the shade and taking in the sights and sounds of the woods.

As if the exterior of this incredible vacation rental in Illinois weren't awesome enough, this treehouse is off-grid and self-reliant, located on a private family farm. The farm is 110 acres of wonder where you can feel free to meander and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding world.

In 2024, Architectural Digest named this amazing little stay the "Best Airbnb in Illinois." I am positively obsessed.

Should you decide to go out and meander, you'll fall madly in love with the nearby wonders. My favorite is the Dickson Burial Mounds, an amazing historic place where you can learn about the long human history of this region. It's truly intriguing, even for those who aren't overly into history.

Once you're tired and ready to retire, you can always come back to the treehouse... it'll be waiting for you. It's worth mentioning that, as an off-grid treehouse, there is no electricity or running water, and if you require WiFi, you might want to choose another escape: this one has none of that. If you're expecting more of a hotel stay, this one isn't for you, either - this is a glamping experience through and through, and for the right tenants, it's perfect.

Me, personally? I'm all about that cozy reading nook.
