This Secluded Campground Near Lookout Mountain Is One of Georgia’s Best Kept Secrets

Tucked away at the base of Lookout Mountain, this peaceful, secluded campground is the perfect home base for all of your outdoor adventures.

Camping in Georgia is one of the best ways to experience the state's jaw-dropping landscapes, and you can find campgrounds everywhere from the mountains to the coast. But popular destinations often mean over-crowded campgrounds, especially during peak season. Fortunately, we've discovered a secluded campground in Georgia that just so happens to be just a few miles from the iconic Lookout Mountain. It's beautiful, well-maintained, and refreshingly uncrowded—the perfect combination for an unforgettable Georgia camping adventure!

Where This Campground Is and How Close It Is to Lookout Mountain

Covenant View Camp and Retreat is situated in the lovely Wauhatchie Valley in Wildwood, Georgia. It's right at the base of Lookout Mountain, and features 70 private acres of forests and open, rolling fields. It feels quite off-the-grid despite being easy to get to. You'll reach the campground by taking state roads and eventually entering through a private driveway.

Getting to Lookout Mountain from the campground is easy, and most campers enjoy taking advantage of the area's best hikes. Cloudland Canyon State Park, for example, is just 16 miles from the campground. While this state park does offer opportunities for camping, you'll appreciate having space from the crowds, especially during summer and early fall.

What Makes This Campground so Secluded

The unique layout of the property is what makes Covenant View Camp and Retreat feel so private and tucked away. There are 11 tent-only sites on the property, and they're spaced out intentionally so that it never seems crowded, even when fully booked. Compared to other campgrounds on Lookout Mountain, this truly feels like a peaceful retreat.

One of the most secluded campsites on the property is the Whispering Pines Tents area, which you'll find in a peaceful, wooded area that's perfect for families. It features an 8x16 tent, a large hammock, a fire pit, and is just a short walk to the bathroom facilities. Or, if you'd like something a bit different, you can request that a yurt be set up, which can sleep between two and four campers.

What to Expect When You Camp Here

This campground is ideal for those seeking a rustic camping experience. The sites are primitive, though each is within walking distance of porta-johns and drinking water. Most sites come with a fire pit, picnic table, and grills. It offers the best of both worlds: off-the-grid camping with access to some of Georgia's best hiking trails. The atmosphere at the campground is laid-back, welcoming, and could best be described as a peaceful retreat, where nature is at the heart of it all. And speaking of nature, you might just encounter wildlife! Herds of white-tailed deer, barred owls, and foxes have all been spotted here. Lastly, this is a fantastic place for stargazing. The low light pollution means a dazzling night sky overhead!

Whether you're an enthusiastic camper or looking to try primitive camping in a very approachable way, you'll agree that Covenant View is the perfect home base for all of your Lookout Mountain adventures.
