First Time Camper? This Accessible Campground in Georgia Will Make You a Camping Convert
Located only 30 minutes from Atlanta, this campground in Georgia is perfect for first timers.
You’ve watched countless videos, you’ve joined Reddit threads and Facebook groups, and now the time has come—your first camping adventure. Congratulations, and welcome to the club! Camping is a fantastic way to unplug from the world and immerse yourself in a more natural setting. If you’re new to camping, I’ve got the perfect campground in Georgia that will turn you into a camping convert. Let's take a closer look:
Welcome to Brooks Lake, a tranquil campground in Georgia located only 25 miles from Atlanta. This campground was voted the best Hipcamp in 2024 for its amazing views, family-friendly atmosphere, and rockstar staff. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-time camper, Brooks Lake caters to all.
Brooks Lake offers 56 acres of rolling hills and shaded bluffs to enjoy, plus a 50-acre spring-fed lake that’s perfect for fishing, swimming, and paddling around.
Guests can rent a paddle boat, canoe, or a fishing boat for more aquatic adventures. There’s also a separate swimming section that’s roped off (no lifeguard on duty).
While the water is the main attraction, there are plenty of activities on land to enjoy. Picnic tables pepper the grounds, plus there’s always a game of volleyball, horseshoes, softball, or basketball to play. There are plenty of things to do nearby, too. Panola Mountain State Park is 13 miles away, Fort Yargo State Park is 20 miles away, and Hard Labor Creek State Park is 21 miles away. Atlanta is just a 30-minute drive from this Georgia campground!
There are several ways to camp at Brooks Lake. Travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, pop-up campers, Class A RVs, Class B RVs, Class C RVs, Campervans, and cars are all allowed. Camping sites are grass or field (not paved), so you may have to do some leveling.
RVShare is a great option for RV rentals. They offer several different styles, including driveables and towables. It’s a good way to test drive this lifestyle and see what type of RV fits your family.
50amp, 30amp, 20amp, and 110 electric outlets are all available, plus water hook-ups. Brooks Lake is pet-friendly and kid-friendly, so bring the whole squad!
Each campsite (RV or tent) has a maximum of eight guests per site. If you’re bringing a tent, you’ll pick out your campsite when you arrive. The owners are lovely and give you a tour of the property and point out some great campsites.
You won’t feel crowded, either. There’s plenty of space to sprawl out, and the campsites are spaced out very well. Even the reviews rave about how tranquil and peaceful this Georgia campground is. No wonder it was voted the best campground in Georgia!
Of course, we all know the best part of camping is sitting around a campfire. Campfires are allowed in both the community fire ring and private campsites with fire pits. Don’t forget the ingredients for s’mores!
This is one spot you’ll want to wake up early and watch the sunrise over the lake. I love it when the fog hovers above the water in the early hours of the morning.
