Are you counting down the days until your next camping adventure? There’s nothing more wonderful than unwinding among the beauty of nature, whether you’re keen on beachfront accommodations, forested wonder, or some combination of the two. One unforgettable campground in Metro Detroit offers endless splendor, so be sure to make space for it on your next camping itinerary.
Algonac State Park is located at 8970 River Rd. in Clay Township.
If you’re traveling from downtown Detroit, the park can be accessed by car in approximately one hour and ten minutes.
This breathtaking natural locale offers opportunities for camping all year round, whether you’re looking for a summertime adventure or a unique wintry outing. There’s so much to appreciate here.
The park is actually split into two separate campgrounds, though you truly can’t go wrong with either. If you’re a fan of the great outdoors and family togetherness, look no further.
Both the Wagon Wheel and Waterfront Campgrounds are equipped with modern restrooms for your convenience. Guests will pay slightly more per night to stay at Waterfront.
As its name suggests, the Waterfront Campground at Algonac State Park offers quicker access to the shores of the St. Clair River, which adds an extra dose of magic to every stay.
No matter where you spend the night, though, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to stroll along the shoreline and watch as Great Lakes Freighters make their journey along the waterway.
In addition to riverfront charm, the park offers 1,500 brilliant acres of land and trails for hiking. No matter what the weather is like outside, you’ll find plenty of fresh air and scenery to enjoy.
Whether you’re wandering through an oak savannah, doing some birdwatching, or enjoying a picnic with loved ones before relaxing at your campsite, this spot is so worth exploring.
