This Charming Restaurant In The Heart Of Chateau Country Is A Delaware Dream
Krazy Kat's in Delaware's Chateau Country offers unique French cuisine in a charming, cat-themed setting.
When E. I. du Pont founded the DuPont Company in 1802, I wonder if he knew that his gunpowder mill at Hagley would transform an entire region. As the du Ponts became more and more successful, their influence spread out to the Brandywine Valley, and Delaware's Chateau Country began to emerge. Many mansions were created with French influence, gardens were established throughout New Castle County, and wineries began to pop up, taking advantage of Delaware's sandy soil. Now, decades later, Delaware's Chateau Country remains a French-inspired escape from the busier regions of the First State.
Delaware's chateau country is famous for its charm and beauty,
Thanks to the DuPonts, much of northern Delaware has been crafted with significant French influence. As you drive through the Brandywine Valley, you'll almost feel like you've been transported halfway across the world.
Right in the heart of the valley, you'll find Delaware's Chateau Country Restaurant - if you know where to look.
The Village of Montchanin was established as a hamlet for the DuPonts, and over a century later, it still has the same elusive charm that you would expect. The Inn at Montchanin has turned this little villa into a world-class retreat, and Krazy Kat's is the hamlet's signature restaurant. It may be a little hard to find - you'll have to park at the Montchanin Spa.
When you find it, you'll immediately notice the theme.
Besides being a world-class French restaurant, Krazy Kat's is unique in that it's decorated with cats! There is art and decor everywhere showing appreciation to feline friends. You might even run into a stray hanging around the property.
This Chateau Country Restaurant is certainly an upscale, classy place to dine, but they keep it affordable.
If you want to try unbelievable French food, this is the place to go. Grab lunch here with a $10 combo that includes half of a sandwich, a cup of their homemade soup, and signature gaufrette potatoes. There's no better lunch in the region!
And you can't beat their take on entrees for dinner.
I'd highly recommend the Cajun Seafood Stuffed Chicken, shown above. It's served with corn bread biscuits, alligator andouille sausage gravy, baby kale, and a chive crema. Did you know you could get something this incredible, just a few miles outside of Wilmington?!
In the spring and summer, their outdoor seating provides the most spectacular setting for a meal.
If you come with a group, you'll love the tapas and small portion offerings, which allow everyone to try multiple things on the menu! Their rib eye is mouthwatering, and their seafood dishes are unforgettable. The delicious dishes served at Krazy Kat's make this restaurant one of the only ones in the state that serve up French cuisine.
So when you're looking for a little getaway, head out to Delaware's Chateau Country.
Explore the DuPont Mansions and Gardens, Brandywine Valley, and dine at the quaint, hidden restaurant right at the heart of it all. You'll love Krazy Kat's, and you'll want to return again and again.528 Montchanin Rd
