One of the first things people think about when Connecticut is mentioned is the beauty of the large historical inns throughout the state. Connecticut inns are more than just a place to sleep in between sight-seeing destinations; each inn has its own background story and personality. One of the most popular inns is Salisbury's White Hart Inn.
The White Hart Inn was originally built as a small tavern back in 1806. At that time, the inn only had a few rooms. In 1867, the tavern became an inn after an especially large addition was added to the establishment.

Edsel Ford of the Ford Motor Company was one of the more well-known owners of The White Hart Inn. Legend says he only purchased the inn because he wanted to have a place to stay while his son was attending the nearby Hotchkiss School in Lakeville.
In 2010, the inn was shut down as it underwent a complete renovation. It was re-opened to guests in 2014.
The current inn has 16 guest rooms, three dining rooms, a 40-seat taproom, a full-service bar, two outdoor dining patios, a ballroom, a patio with drink service, and a cafe/general store.
After you've enjoyed a day of visiting the local shops and seeing the sights, you can have a few moments of relaxation as you sip an after-dinner drink on the front porch. On concert nights, you'll also have a chance to listen to local music when bands play on the lawn.
Each guest room is furnished with hardwood floors, a four-poster bed and luxurious linens. Additionally, all of the rooms are decorated with artwork created by local artists.
The large suites are a luxurious escape from the real world. The bedrooms are furnished with a king-sized bed and the sitting room has an extra pullout couch. The suite bathrooms are decorated with marble and some suites have an extra half bath.
The John Harney suite was named after the founder of Harney & Son's Tea, which got its start in the basement of The White Hart Inn. The suite used to be Harney's office. It has two bedrooms, a sitting room, and an eat-in kitchen.
Each of the inn's guest rooms have a mini-bar with complimentary Harney and Son's juices or teas. A continental breakfast is also included.
White Hart Provisions is an on-site cafe and general store with a casual atmosphere. It's a great place to grab a quick breakfast, a cup of coffee, or try one of the house-made seasonal sodas.
