Located along the Mendocino coastline, Usal Beach is a dreamy oceanfront campground that you'll never want to leave. This quiet and pristine camping destination represents everything we love about the majestic Lost Coast!
Usal Beach is the southernmost beach in Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. It's remote, rugged, and primitive—everything you could ask for in a beach campground. It can be a little hard to find, but it's well worth it.
You'll find the campground by following Usal Road (Mendocino County Rd 431) which is about 13 miles north of Westport off of Highway 1. The road is narrow and winding, and best traversed in an AWD vehicle.
The campsites themselves are very primitive and don't offer many amenities - just a few fire rings and outhouses - so be sure to pack plenty of supplies. There are 25 campsites and they are first-come, first-served. Campsites are well spread out and provide amazing views of the coastline and beautiful state parks.
You seriously couldn't ask for a dreamier setting for a coastal adventure, and the area boasts tons of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Popular activities at Usal Beach include fishing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and swimming.
The Lost Coast Trail is also easily accessible from the campground and great for exploring the stunning Sinkyone Wilderness. Follow it north to other beaches like Anderson Beach and Wheeler Beach.
Experience the best of Northern California's endlessly magical Lost Coast and plan an adventure at Usal Beach. This isolated gem simply belongs on every camper's bucket list.
