The small town of Nevada City is no stranger to hauntings. It's renowned as one of the most haunted towns in all of Northern California, so that's why it comes as no surprise that one of the nation's most haunted hotels is located right here. The National Exchange Hotel in Northern California (sometimes referred to as just the National Hotel) is considered one of the best places to go if you want to spot a ghost. It makes sense: This is one of the most haunted hotels in California. It has seen a lot of people and has been through a lot since it was built in the 1800s. Visit this unsettling place only if you think you can handle it! We dare you...

The National Exchange Hotel is considered the oldest hotel on this side of the Mississippi. It's been in continuous operation since 1856, so it makes sense that this place is teeming with stories, especially of the paranormal kind.

If you're the type of person who thrives off of seeking out haunted places, then you'll want to book a night in this famously haunted hotel. People have reported everything from misplaced sounds and odd gusts of cold wind to full body apparitions.

There are several recurring apparitions that have been spotted over the years. The most famous is a young girl named Elizabeth who is known to lurk on the second floor. It's believed she died of a childhood illness, and she can be seen doing innocent activities like skipping rope or riding a tricycle.

Many of the spirits don't have names or backstories. Some visitors have reported seeing men dressed in Old Western clothing sitting in the lobby and smoking or women dressed in lavish Victorian dresses hanging out in the bar area.

However, some spirits aren't so friendly. A woman who was murdered in the hotel makes it known to visitors how she died. She is famous for leaving bloody hand prints around Room 48 as an eerie reminder of her violent death.

In 2012, the hotel was the location of a paranormal investigation by the popular Travel Channel show called Ghost Adventures. Even if you don't believe in ghosts, it's hard to deny that there's something strange going on at the National Hotel.

There's only one way to see if this hotel is actually haunted or not. Dare yourself to spend a night or two in one of the hotel's historic rooms and see what you find. Just remember to report back here and tell us about your experiences!
