Arizona has no shortage of awesome campgrounds, and one of our favorites is tucked away at the very bottom of the Grand Canyon. Bright Angel Campground, accessible via three long and difficult hiking trails, is nestled between a crystal-clear creek and towering, two-billion-year-old rock walls. If you haven't already been (or even if you have, for that matter), it's time to plan a trip before summer ends.
Hidden deep within the Grand Canyon, Bright Angel Campground is a welcome sight among weary hikers.
It usually takes about five hours to reach on foot (assuming you stop several times to rest and/or take photos).
Reaching the campground requires a grueling trek on either the North Kaibab, South Kaibab, or Bright Angel Trail. The latter includes crossing this 440-foot suspension bridge high above the Colorado River.
If you're afraid of heights, don't look down - but don't let your fears stop you from experiencing the campground, either.
Half a mile upstream from the campground, you'll find the Phantom Ranch Canteen, which offers cold beer, snacks, and other provisions to replenish your fuel stores after the arduous hike.
You can also play games and mail postcards here.
There are 32 campsites in all, some nestled along Bright Angel Creek and others situated at the base of the towering canyon walls.
You will need a permit to camp here and they sell out rather quickly, so make sure to plan ahead!
Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, bathroom sinks, picnic tables, and emergency phones.
That's more than can be said about many other campgrounds in the park!
Nothing quite compares to spending the night surrounded by two-billion-year-old granite cliffs at the bottom of Arizona's most iconic natural wonder.
Either stay for a single night or as part of a trans-canyon loop route - the choice is yours!
Address: North Kaibab Trail, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023.
Call (928) 638-7888 with any questions or concerns.
