Watching Snow Fall From This One Hot Spring Resort In Alaska Is Basically Heaven

Chena Hot Springs in Alaska offers year-round relaxation, renewable energy projects, and unique attractions like an Ice Museum.

As Alaskans, we know one of the best things to do on a cold winter's day is to get warm. And where better to get warm than one of Alaska's favorite hot springs resorts? Chena Hot Springs in Chena, Alaska, is a magical place to get away in the winter. With plenty of things to do for an entire weekend, you can get cozy while appreciating everything our Alaskan winters have to offer!

Chena Hot Springs is located almost 60 miles northeast of Fairbanks. It was founded over 100 years ago by two mining brothers, who set up twelve small cabins in 1911.

Not only a hot spring and resort, Chena Hot Springs is also exploring many different alternative energy projects. They are currently collaborating with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The soothing waters are filled with many different types of minerals known to help an aching body. These waters have been compared to hot springs you may find in the Czech Republic.

Many people believe ailments like circular disorders, arthritis, and muscular pains are eased through regular soaking. They also attract people with bronchial disorders who claim the steam and minerals offer relief.

The winters are just as busy at the hot springs resort as the summers! With yearly temperatures averaging a cool 23.2 degrees F, this resort is set up to be utilized all year round!

During even the coldest nights of winter, which can dip down to approximately -24 degrees F, it is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the winter nights. Frequently guests of the resort are treated to aurora borealis while they soak!

If you think the resort only offers hot springs, you are mistaken! Inside the Ice Museum is a wide array of incredible ice sculptures.

There are two resident ice artists, Steve and Heather Brice. The museum itself is open year round, even when summer temperatures can reach up to 90 degrees F!

The Ice Museum also boasts a gorgeous ice bar, where they serve a delicious "Appletini" served in a hand carved ice martini glass!

The museum offers plenty of tours all day long, and is open 365 days a year! Tickets are only booked in person, and are available for purchase at the Activity Center Desk.

Chena Hot Springs Resort has also created geothermal energy power plants, the very first of its kind in Alaska!

They use this energy partly to run their greenhouse, with a goal of the entire resort becoming self sufficient. They currently produce fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs all year round. These items are all sold in the restaurant on their property!

Chena Hot Springs is a magical place in the interior of Alaska that is not only a wonderful place to relax but also to admire as they push forward on new renewable fronts! To check out more about the resort, visit their website at Chena Hot Springs Resort.
