Some folks may believe we only have one life to live, and although I am not totally convinced of that, I still aim to live this life to the fullest. Located just outside Auburn and only 60 miles from Montgomery, this beautiful farmhouse retreat in Alabama is the perfect place to relax and unwind for a few days. The modern two-bedroom suite features four beds, including a king-size, a single, a double, and a sofa bed. Although it has enough room for up to six guests and your furry pal, this bungalow is awesome for a romantic getaway for two. 

The beautifully decorated master bedroom is bright and cheery with lots of natural lighting. I could imagine myself spending cozy nights and lazy mornings snuggling in the comfy king-size bed. If you’re traveling with the little ones, the double bed and the sofa bed in the living room area would be ideal for them. 

I love how spacious the suite is, and there is plenty of entertainment. Some of the amenities include Wi-Fi, TV, DVD player, movies, Bluetooth sound system, books, board games, and toys for the little ones. You and your family will have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Keep in mind, this suite was recently transformed into a duplex to accommodate smaller groups on the farm. So, you won’t find a large kitchen, but the kitchenette has a full-size refrigerator, microwave, a small convection oven, a toaster, and a Keurig for your morning coffee. There is also a charcoal grill outside for burgers or steaks. 

And speaking of outside, this is where the rental shines. The spacious yard is a playground filled with all kinds of barn animals, including free-range chickens, turkeys, and the local wildlife. The kids will love interacting with the chickens and turkeys, and chasing them around the yard. But what makes this farm truly special is the bison that call it home. 

Guests are always delighted to see these massive creatures roaming and grazing in the fields every day. Personally, I could sit and watch these majestic animals for hours, especially the adorable calves. For safety, the bison are kept behind the fence and not accessible to visitors without an escort. The good news? For an additional cost, you can book a hayride that will get you up close and personal with the bison. 

When you’re not watching these shaggy mammals, carve out time to fish (catch and release only) in the ponds on the property. In the warmer months, swimming is allowed, but only at your own risk. Stretch your legs on the nearby walking trails or spend a lazy day curled up in the hammock as you watch the kids play by the pond. This farm is the kind of destination where you could relax and fully immerse yourself in the experience. 

There is enough to keep you busy at the farm all day, but if you would like to explore the area, Chewacla State Park is a short drive away. Here you will find one of our favorite waterfalls in Alabama: Chewacla Falls. You’ll need to hike along a two-mile trail to see this picturesque cascade, but it will be worth it. Bring the kids and dogs along for a fun-filled adventure. 

If you get hungry, treat yourself to a footlong chili dog and a classic milkshake at the iconic Mrs. Story’s Dairy Bar. This local joint has been a favorite for folks in the area since 1952, and chances are, you’ll enjoy the delicious food, too. Once you’re nice and full, it’s time to return to the farm for an evening of stargazing or roasting marshmallows by the fire pit.
