8 Extremely Weird Things Only People From Wisconsin Do
Wisconsin residents embrace unique traditions like putting cheese on apple pie and playing snowshoe baseball.
If you're from Wisconsin, you know it's wacky. We do some strange things up here, from the stuff we eat to our modes of transportation. But to us, it's totally normal. Here are eight unique things that only people from Wisconsin do.
1. We Put Cheese on Our Apple Pie.

Because, really, cheese can go with anything. We also put popcorn on our beer cheese soup, and love squeaky cheese curds. Wisconsinites aren’t called Cheeseheads for no reason, after all.
2. We Drive Snowmobiles to Restaurants.

Hey, if there's a ton of snow on the ground, is there a more efficient way to get around? In winter, snowmobiles can be a more reliable route to town than uncleared roads, making them an optimal form of transport. It's a welcome method of travel in such icy places as Hurley, the snowiest town in Wisconsin, or Eagle River, also known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World.
3. We Willingly Drive in Conditions Like This.

Sometimes the snowmobile is in the shop, so we take a car instead. It's part badge of honor, part we just don't know any better. But don’t worry, Wisconsin’s residents are used to driving in icy conditions—we’ve gotten plenty of practice with decades worth of horrible winter storms.
4. We Celebrate Beer. Like, Celebrate It Hard.
There's a big difference between loving beer and idolizing it, and we pretty much idolize it. That’s why Wisconsin has so many exceptional breweries, like Minhas, America’s second-oldest brewery. It's also why we're home to the largest six-pack in the world, a landmark found in La Crosse, Wisconsin. In fact, the only thing we might like more than beer in this state is beer and bacon.
5. We Wear Shorts in the Winter.

It is not strange at all to see people in shorts when it is 30 degrees out in Wisconsin. Why the seemingly contradictory dress? Wisconsin’s residents are a hardy bunch—we’re used to frigid temperatures and know how to prove it.
6. We Always Choose Brats Over Hot Dogs.
Listen, I'm not knocking franks, but the rest of the country is definitely pro-hot dog. And no, they’re not the same thing. Hot dogs are much more processed; meanwhile, bratwursts are meatier, more flavorful, and can’t be eaten right out of the package.
7. We Have Weird Names for Things. Like Words No One Else in the Country Uses.

What is a bubbler? It’s a drinking fountain, of course! What about uff-da? That’s just an exclamation of surprise. Also, traffic lights are known as stop and go lights, and soda is most definitely called pop.
8. We Play Showshoe Baseball.
As residents of this great state, we aren’t going to let something as trivial as a little snow stop us from playing baseball. Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin, is the home of snowshoe baseball, actually. And you know what’s really crazy? We even play it when there is no snow!
