13 Things Every True Washingtonian Does At Least Once Before They Die
Washingtonians have a wide variety of interests, passions and abilities. Your individual experience of living in the Evergreen State may be different than most. However, there are a few things you can practically count on happening at least once if you live here. How many of these sound familiar?
1. Hike one of our beautiful trails and realize what a paradise Washington really is for nature lovers.
We are very, very lucky here, and nothing makes you realize it faster than being out in nature.
2. Go to a Mariners game at Safeco Field.
Not everyone can afford Seahawks tickets, and some of us aren’t interested in basketball or soccer… but almost every single Washingtonian, even those who don’t really care for sports, will cheer on the Mariners at some point. It’s a quintessential Washington experience.
3. Do the Puyallup.
The Washington State Fair (once called the Puyallup Fair) is legendary.
4. Pick berries, apples or cherries.
5. Find a favorite local coffee shop (that isn’t Starbucks).
Washingtonians’ opinions of Starbucks vary. Our desire to support local small businesses and drink delicious coffee (from places like Boots Bakery in Spokane) doesn’t vary.
6. Explore Pike Place Market and realize it’s not just a place for tourists.
7. Visit the Space Needle and realize it IS just a place for tourists (with beautiful views, of course).
8. Fall in love with our coast.
Long Beach, Westport, Ocean Shores… our coastal towns are so charming.
9. Go to a concert at the Gorge.
10. Decide if Eastern Washington or Western Washington is more your style.
We talk about our differences, but the truth is, every part of our state is beautiful. If you get the chance to live on both sides of it in your lifetime, you really should.
11. Visit Mount Rainier National Park and the Olympic Peninsula.
This is some of Washington's most spectacular scenery.
12. One word: Leavenworth.
You’d be hard-pressed to find an adult Washingtonian who’s never been… and if you find one, tell them to go immediately.
13. Step inside a pot shop… even just to look.
Even if you don’t smoke it, aren’t you just a bit curious about what’s inside?
Are you a true Washingtonian? Here are some signs that you definitely belong here.
