This Washington Town Is One of the Most Peaceful Places To Live in the Country
Discover why Bainbridge Island is considered one of the most peaceful towns in Washington, from quiet beaches to charming local shops.
If you are like me, you want to live in the most peaceful town in Washington. However, when choosing a home, having a list of qualities most important to you is helpful. The ideal setting can vary depending on the stage of life you're in. Families with young children typically put good schools at the top of their neighborhood shopping list. Retired folks might look for a community with lots of activities for seniors. Whatever the case, there's no denying that a home should be a place of comfort and tranquility. That's why we're happy to share a little bit about the lovely town of Bainbridge Island. Step off the ferry onto this enchanting hamlet, and you'll see why it's one of the most peaceful places to live in Washington.
Why Bainbridge Island Feels So Peaceful
Just a short 35-minute ferry ride from Seattle, Bainbridge Island is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Not only is the island breathtaking and offers incredible views of the Olympic Mountains, Seattle skyline, and Mt. Rainier, but it’s also home to a walkable downtown area lined with locally owned restaurants, shops, and art galleries. It’s also home to wineries, farms, and countless outdoor activities, creating a place where you'll find something for everyone.
The Best Things To Do Around Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island is all about community. In fact, local businesses host seasonal events throughout the year, including trick or treating, music and art festivals, and holiday celebrations. Eclectic boutiques, galleries, and bookstores line the charming downtown area, where you can meander for hours, relishing a slower pace of life. Coffee lovers will appreciate the charming, picture-perfect cafes on the island. Besides the great coffee shops, Bainbridge Island is bustling with delicious restaurants, bars, tasting rooms, and great places to grab a sweet treat!
Tranquil beaches offer a peaceful setting for beachcombing. Fay Bainbridge Park is home to one of the most well-known and popular beaches here, and where you’ll enjoy some incredible collections of driftwood. This is also a family-friendly destination with amenities like a playground, grill, restrooms, and more. Other beaches you may consider include Hawley Cove and Lytle Beach. Pritchard Beach, which is near Hawley Cove, is one of the best beaches if you want to spend time along a sandy, beautiful shore.
Fly a kite, walk the dog, or skim over the water in a kayak. Bainbridge Island is abundant in outdoor activities for the whole family. And if you don't want to spend time on the water, forested trails dot the island, just waiting to be explored. While there are several hikes that take you through the gorgeous forests of the island, we recommend the Grand Forest West Main Trail, a family-friendly loop trail that’s just over one mile, flat, and absolutely stunning with towering trees, a wooden footbridge, and much more.
