Virginia Was Recently Named One Of The Best States To Live In And We’re Not Surprised

What we've always known about our beloved Virginia has recently been confirmed.

According to the financial journal, 24/7 Wall Street, Virginia has made the list for "America's Best States To Live In." Leading factors in this decision were steady population growth, financial stability, and low poverty rates. Here's more information on the statistics that back up this brag-worthy ranking:

Studies have found that the population growth is slightly over 14% in Virginia. This is the 18th highest in the U.S., meaning that folks have been moving to this glorious state at a consistently moderate rate over the past decade.

Unemployment rates in Virginia are 4.2%, the 17th lowest in the country and below the national average of roughly 5%. Additionally, poverty rates are the 11th lowest in the country.

One of the leading determinants in ranking Virginia as one of the best states to live in is financial security. Residents of Virginia are more likely to earn a stable income than the most Americans. The median annual household income in the U.S. is $55,775 while in Virginia that number is increased to $66,262.

Another factor is the high level of homeownership. It’s estimated that a typical home in Virginia is worth over a quarter million dollars, significantly higher than the national median value of less than $200,000.

And, despite high property value on these homes, Virginians enjoy a relatively low real estate tax, meaning the homes themselves become more affordable.

The final factor that has gone into this study is average life expectancy. According to statistics, the life expectancy at birth for a Virginian is 78.5 years, above the national average of 76. With sweeping mountain views like this, it's hard to imagine a healthier place to call home.

Of course, this study doesn't even begin to factor in the quality of life, incredible activities, restaurants, neighborhoods, small town charm, and all of the other characteristics of life in the Old Dominion.
