10 Surefire Signs You Have Strong Roots in Utah
Where are you putting down your roots? Here in Utah, my roots run deep. Having lived in both southern and northern Utah, and with extended family scattered in almost every corner of the state, the Beehive State will always be home. And because of those strong roots, I will proudly defend it. And I’m not alone. If you feel the same way, be sure to check out the Wear Your Roots brand to represent Utah. Their logo is shown above and it may just fill you with pride as we take a look at 10 surefire signs you have strong roots in Utah.
1. You like your soda a little “dirty.”
Regular soda is not for us. We like to kick it up a notch with coconut, lime, or dozens of other flavors.
2. “Heck,” “Frick,” “Darn it,” and “shoot” are all in your vocabulary.
Utah has its own language when it comes to its swear words and if you have strong roots in the state, you likely speak this language fluently.
3. You always find yourself comparing national parks around the country to the Mighty 5.
I'll be the first to say it ... Utah's national parks are the best.
4. You use the mountains to determine north and south.
Who needs a compass when you have the mountains to direct you?
5. Pronouncing town names like Tooele, Oquirrh, Duchesne, and Nephi is easy (and correct!).
There are many town names throughout the state that if you say wrong, you’ll quickly be identified as an out-of-state guest.
6. You are excited when fry sauce is offered at a local restaurant.
Here in Utah, we love fry sauce and we put it on everything — French fries, burgers, chicken, etc.
7. Your food storage is quite impressive.
It doesn’t matter if your food storage consists of canned goods, jars, boxes of noodles, and more, you likely can feed your family for days if needed.
8. Pioneer Day is one of your favorite summer holidays.
July 24 is not your typical day. It is 24 hours full of parades, rodeos, barbecues, and fireworks and we can hardly wait until the day arrives.
9. You aren’t afraid to call in sick on the first good snow day of the year.
It’s hard to focus on work when fresh powder is waiting for you.
10. You know what funeral potatoes actually are and find yourself craving them.
Funeral potatoes are not just a side dish at funerals. Here in Utah, we eat them no matter the occasion. With lots of cheese and a crunchy topping, they are the perfect addition to any meal.
There’s something special about being from Utah and the above list is just the beginning of the wonderful things that stem from the Beehive State. What other signs would you add to this list, showing you have strong roots in Utah? Let us know in the comments.
