The Breathtaking Historic Home In Utah You Must Visit This Year

Almost everywhere you go in Utah, you’ll see evidence of its rich pioneer history. There are beautiful pioneer homes, churches, schools, and other buildings scattered around the state. Even most towns in Utah were settled by pioneers. While there are many historic homes you can visit that are well worth your time, one that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves is tucked away in St. George — Brigham Young’s Winter Home.

Brigham Young was a religious leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was the second president of the church from 1847 until 1877. He is responsible for leading members of the church from Nauvoo, Illinois to the Salt Lake Valley.

While Young’s primary home was in Salt Lake City, during the winter months in the 1870s, he lived in a beautiful home in St. George. Young purchased the home in 1872 and added to it, creating enough room for his large family.

Today, this home has been restored and furnished to reflect Young’s time spent underneath its roof. From large pieces of furniture to dishes, every detail will take you back in time.

Tours of this home are open to the public and give you a glimpse of life in Southern Utah for Young and his family. This is one fascinating way to learn a little more about Utah's pioneer history.

While you will get to enjoy this home and its breathtaking architecture during your tour, you will also learn more about Young, his family life, and some of his contributions to establishing our great state.

After you've explored the home, step outside and visit Young's office. Adjacent to the home is this area where Young completed important work. Here, he oversaw the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the establishment of Southern Utah and the construction of the St. George Temple.
