7 Habits And Quirks That Make Texans Stand Apart From The Rest
Seven unique habits and quirks that distinguish Texans from others.
If you've lived in Texas for any significant amount of time, chances are you're well aware that we have our own distinct culture and way of doing things. Here are seven habits and quirks that make residents of the Lone Star State stand apart from the crowd - and we wouldn't have it any other way.
1. Measuring distance in hours, not miles
The latter is pretty useless when your state is over 800 miles across.
2. Holding it in until you get to the nearest Bucc-ee's
What can we say? The bathrooms are worth waiting for.
3. Sending our daughters to the homecoming dance with these giant things covering almost the entire front of their gown
They're called mums - not particularly fashionable, we'll admit, but they're a sacred part of small-town Texas culture.
4. Refusing to eat any ice cream brand except Blue Bell
Yeah, we're spoiled. What are you gonna do about it?
5. Having to wait your turn, even on a remote stretch of highway in the middle of nowhere, to take bluebonnet pictures
Even if the shoulder of the road looks like a parking lot, nothing stops a determined Texan.
6. Scoffing when meteorologists recommend evacuating for anything less than a Category 3 hurricane
Who wants to sit on a highway for two days when you have a generator and enough Vienna sausages to feed an army? (Please note: this is not, in any way, a suggestion to disregard the advice of your local weather authorities.)
7. Rallying together in times of need
This photo was taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and showcases the lengths Texans are willing to go to in order to help one another.
