Captain 11 was a beloved children's TV show in South Dakota that aired for 41 years, hosted by Dave Dedrick.

Did you grow up in South Dakota? If so, you likely remember Captain 11, a popular children's television show that aired on KELO-TV Channel 11 for 41 years. Join us now as we take a walk down memory lane and revisit the best South Dakota TV show from the 1970s:

Captain 11 delighted children of three generations. Its first episode aired on March 7, 1955, and its last episode aired December 27, 1996.

The show was hosted by KELO-TV's weatherman, Dave Dedrick.

Lucky local kids got to appear on the show, and Dedrick introduced every guest. At the end of the show, television guests and kids watching at home played "freezeberg," waving hands and feet until Dedrick said "freeze" and everyone on the set held as still as they could.

Do you remember playing "freezeberg" at home?

The show originally aired every day after school, but eventually scaled back to once per week.

Dedrick tried to make every child on set and at home feel special.

You'll also find other memorabilia there, including the Captain 11 uniform and posters.

Dave Dedrick retired in 1996, and he was inducted into the South Dakota Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1997.
