10 Complaints About Life In Pennsylvania That Only Locals Understand
PA's a pretty amazing place to live, right? But, let's face it. It's not perfect. We all have our own private complaints about life in Pennsylvania. Then, there are those things that just seem to get under most Pennsylvanians' skin. Here are 10 complaints about life in Pennsylvania that only we locals can really understand.
1. Tolls, tolls, tolls and…
Seems like there are tolls everywhere we drive sometimes. The bad news? Those PA Turnpike tolls are going to keep going up and up for the next three decades. The good news? We can find alternative routes when driving.
2. Taxes, taxes, taxes.
PA sure knows how to rake in the cash. Just look at the always-increasing taxes we pay. We even beat out California when it comes to paying the highest gasoline tax in the nation.
3. The high humidity is a killer.
Well, it's certainly a killer if you want to be able to control your hair on those hot summer days.
4. You never know what the season will be from one hour to the next.
We have all four seasons in PA. Yay! Sometimes we experience them all in one day. Boo! Unless, of course, you don't mind running the furnace and the air conditioner on the same day.
5. And, some people still panic at the first mention of snow.
We've all had our fair share of dealing with snow. We also know that weather forecasters sometimes get it wrong. Still, every time someone mentions that four letter word, some people immediately scurry to the store for the winter staples of milk, bread, and toilet paper.
6. The only thing more stressful than deer on the road are the…
The deer are certainly beautiful but they sure do test our driving skills, especially how fast we can hit the brakes or swerve when one leaps into our path.
7. Potholes.
Potholes, potholes, everywhere. There's nothing worse than driving along, only to inadvertently slam right into a pothole we somehow didn't see.
8. No one wants to deal with PennDOT.
Especially when we're on a road trip and see the signs warning us of construction ahead.
9. We can’t buy a car on Sunday.
Yep. We still can't buy a car on Sundays in PA, which can be pretty inconvenient for those who work all week.
10. We actually live here because we want to…
Some out-of-staters mistakenly believe that we live in PA because we're somehow forced to. Au contraire. We stay because we love it here.
Okay, so nowhere is perfect, right? But life in Pennsylvania is pretty good, even with our complaints. In fact, here are 11 ways Pennsylvania has quietly become the coolest state in the U.S.
