9 Phrases That Will Make You Swear Columbusites Have Their Own Language

Columbusites love to say that we don't have an accent. Everyone else speaks with an accent, but our English is the right English. True or not, we definitely have some funny phrases that will make other people raise their eyebrows. Let's see what some of them are!

1. "The Shoe"

If you're going to "The Shoe," you're not talking about something you put on your foot. It's actually the Ohio Stadium, known as "The Horseshoe" or simply "The Shoe."

2. "The Wex"

The Wexner Center for the Arts is one of our city's best museums, but it's got a long name. So for short, it's just "The Wex."

3. "Bucks"

No, this has nothing to do with deer or dollars. "The Bucks" is short for "The Buckeyes," the one and only love of many Columbusites.

4. It's "pop," not "soda."

It's pop, and that's that. Also, Coke is just Coke, not any of the other stuff.

5. "The Schott"

The Schottenstein Center, home to many sports events, political rallies, and theatrical events, is a long word, so it's just "The Schott."

6. "B Dubs"

Founded over 30 years ago right here in Columbus, Buffalo Wild Wings is one of our favorite places for wings and sports watching. We lovingly call it "B Dubs."

7. "Cbus"

Columbus, 614, Cbus... we have lots of names of our favorite city.

8. "Jackets"

Besides the Buckeyes, we've got lots of other sport talent in the city. The Blue Jackets, or just "Jackets," are the hockey stars of Columbus.

9. "The heart of the heart of it all"

Ohio is "the heart of it all," but Columbus is "the heart of the heart of it all."
