If you live in New York State, strap yourself in for a slightly mild yet cold and snowy winter! That’s according to new predictions from the ever-reliable Old Farmers’ Almanac, which is one of the most timeless, trustworthy sources in American publishing — the annual American periodical has been in circulation since 1792. According to that source, the region that New York falls in will be slightly milder than normal, but that doesn't mean we won't have our fair share of cold and snow! In fact, we're already picking out our new snow boots now. For more information on what's in store this winter, keep reading for the Farmers' Almanac 2024 winter in New York predictions.

For those living in New York State, the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting above average temperatures and slightly below normal precipitation and snow. This includes areas of New York in the Atlantic Corridor.

While January is expected to have temperatures that are four degrees above normal in the far northern parts of the state, the coldest periods will be in mid-December and late February. The Farmers' Almanac predicts temperatures 2 percent below average in February, so you better bundle up!

As for snow, yes, there will be plenty of that! However, snowfall is expected to be 1-1.5 percent below normal during the 2024-2025 winter season. The snowiest days will be in early December, mid-February, and early March.

As someone who grew up in the northeast and has lived in New York, winters can be quite brutal no matter what. Make sure you have all of your winter clothes and a winter emergency kit prepared before the season arrives.

Every year since 1792, the Old Farmers’ Almanac have been consulting a “time-tested” weather formula to bring readers these predictions.
