This Is The Single Craziest Thing You Never Knew Happened In Nevada

Angel's Ladies brothel in Beatty, Nevada, became famous for a bizarre parachuting stunt that ended in an airplane crash, leaving the wreckage as a quirky tourist attraction.

Today, let's reminisce on the little-known tale of a twin-engine aircraft, a mattress and a "house of ill repute." This may not be the craziest thing you never knew happened in Nevada, but it's definitely one of the craziest things.

The year was 1978. The place was Angel’s Ladies brothel (then Fran’s Star Ranch).

The 5,000 square foot legal brothel in Beatty is situated on a 70-acre ranch with a spring-fed pool and garden. Despite its 4-star review on Yelp, the brothel changed hands a few times and ultimately closed in 2014.

One fine day, the owners issued a high-flying challenge to customers:

Per Atlas Obscura: The first one to parachute out of the brothel's airplane and land on a mattress on the desert floor out front wins a free night with the Angel's Ladies lady of his choice.

Yes, you read that right. Parachute out of an airplane, land on a mattress, win a free night with a prostitute.

Pretty crazy, right? That's not even the craziest thing!

We don’t entirely know if any rocket scientists actually agreed to take the challenge. As the story goes, the stunt was over before it began. As the pilot approached the brothel, he was distracted by the lovely ladies gathering out front for the publicity stunt and bim, bam, boom...

The pilot crashed the airplane.

Oops.

The wreckage from the crash landing has remained at the brothel ever since.

No word on the mattress.

Do you agree this is the craziest thing you never knew happened in Nevada? Or did you already know all about it?

If this story intrigues you, be sure to visit the scene of the stunt. The brothel is closed and the ladies are long gone, but you can see and take photos with the airplane and sign (at your own risk). Just look for the big bright billboard advertising massages, showers and free all-night parking on the west side of U.S. 95 near downtown Beatty.
