3 Reasons Retirees Fall in Love With Living in Nevada

Can you guess which state was selected as the best destination to retire? If you answered New Hampshire, you would be correct. With great health care options, no income or state taxes, a slow-paced vibe, safety, and tons of outdoor recreation, New Hampshire checks all the right boxes for retirees. Although it scored overall high marks, the weather was a major disadvantage.

Some retirees would rather spend their days outdoors, luxuriating in a destination with a warmer climate underneath sunny skies. That’s where Nevada comes in. New Hampshire might be on some retirees' list, but one of the best places to retire is Nevada, well, at least in my humble opinion. 

So, what makes Nevada an ideal destination to live during your golden years? Well, I have several family members who have retired there, and they absolutely have no regrets. They all moved to escape states with colder temperatures and heavy snowfall. 1. Quality of Life in Nevada

Nevada was the clear winner on FinanceBuzz’s 15 Top Southwest Cities for Retirees, naming Las Vegas, Mesquite, and Boulder City as standouts, and I can’t disagree. But one of those cities offers the best quality of life in Nevada for seniors. Just 80 miles northeast of Vegas sits Mesquite, a city of approximately 24,000. Since about half of the residents are over the age of 65, it’s my pick for one of the best places to retire in Nevada. The desert community is the perfect blend of small-town charm with big-city vibes. And you’ll be happy to know, it’s one of the safest cities in Nevada. 

Retirees are guaranteed a vibrant life that moves to its own slow-paced beats. Featuring senior communities with clubhouses, multiple golf courses, casinos, festivals, and yearly events, folks can find their people here. Plus, since the city is close to both local and national parks, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and outdoor fun. It’s easy to see why Mesquite is one of the top retirement hot spots in the state.  

2. Weather, Climate, and Natural Beauty

If you are of a certain age, you know that cold weather can cause joint pain and stiffness. It’s no wonder snowbirds always escape brutal winters for warmer temperatures. One of Nevada’s biggest draws is the abundance of sunny days throughout the year. Sure, the dry, desert heat takes some getting used to, but Nevada’s milder climate (especially in the southern regions) promotes year-round activities. 

No matter the time of year, retirees can explore the wide-open landscapes while improving their mood and well-being. And since Nevada is blessed with striking natural beauty, retired residents can stay active and connected to the great outdoors. From its rugged desert terrain to the red rock canyons to the alpine mountains, lakes, and more, there is so much to love about Nevada. Not to mention that property taxes are among the lowest in the country. Although housing prices vary across the state, there are still affordable options without sacrificing lifestyle. This means that retired residents can enjoy their golden years without stressing about their finances.
