There’s no better place to get a taste of the past than H.D. Gibbes & Sons in Learned, MS! Not only is it one of the oldest general stores in the state, but it’s also a restaurant that's known for its grilled steaks. One look at these H.D. Gibbes & Sons photos and you'll want to pay a visit to this Mississippi general store.
Easily one of the state’s best small-town gems, H.D. Gibbes & Sons is tucked away in the tiny, 80-person town of Learned.
Like some sort of time capsule, it was built in the 1800s and has barely changed since.
There has been one major change, though. It’s no longer a general store. Well, it’s no longer just a general store.
Since 2009, it’s been operating as a combination general store AND restaurant.
As you can imagine, the historic general store makes for a unique dining setting.
Old-fashioned ambiance aside, it’s the steak that H.D. Gibbes & Sons is known for.
Giving top-notch restaurants a run for their money, the menu features a variety of cuts in an array of sizes. Chow down on a 9-ounce filet, 14-ounce New York strip, or 16-ounce, rib-eye.
The menu also includes New Zealand lamb chops, thick-cut pork chops, seafood, and delicious sides.
Saving room for dessert is difficult – but well worth it! There are a few options, but the most popular is the funeral brownie. Decadent (to say the least), it’s a brownie topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and ice cream.
Serving top-notch cuisine in an undeniably unique setting, it's no surprise that H.D. Gibbes & Sons draws customers from near and far!

This isn’t the only historic general store in Mississippi. There's another great one in Kewanee which is perfect for a road trip, which, coincidentally, also includes a great restaurant:
